Insecurity across different regions of Somalia this week resulted in the deaths of at least 65 people and 84 others were injured. Incidents ranged from the killing of a businesswoman in Hosingow to a young al-Shabaab fighter shot and killed in Mogadishu to a doctor's death in a car accident. Al-Shabaab militants claimed to have killed a Burundian soldier. The group also opened fire on civilians killing two. The incidents occurred mainly in the regions of Awdal, Banaadir, Bakool, Baay, Gedo, Galgaduud, Hiiraan, Mudug and Waqooyi Galbeed.

LOWER-JUBBA: Al-Shabaab Shot and Killed Woman in Hosingow
May 12, Hosingow – Al-Shabaab fighters shot and killed a businesswoman in Hosingow village of Lower-Jubba Region in southern Somalia, according to witnesses. Mursal Abdullahi, a local Resident of Hosingow who spoke to Somalia Report, confirmed the incident. He said she was killed after al-Shabaab suspected her of working closely with Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) and Transitional Federal Government (TFG) soldiers.
BANAADIR: Somali Police Shot Al-Shabaab Fighter in Mogadishu
May 12, Mogadishu – A Somali policeman shot and killed a young al-Shabaab fighter hiding an explosive device on Fagah Street of Yaqshid District in Mogadishu on Friday, according the local administrations of the Yaqshid District.
BANAADIR: Al-Shabaab Attacked Government Forces
May 12, Mogadishu – At least two people were killed and three others were injured after heavy fighting between al-Shabaab and Somali National Troops broke out in both Dayniile and Dharkenley districts in the restive capital of Mogadishu. The fighting comes after al-Shabaab militants launched offensive against TFG and AMISOM forces.
BANAADIR: Grenade Attack Killed One in Mogadishu
May 12, Mogadishu – A young girl was killed and eight others, mostly children, were injured after unknown person hurled a grenade onto a government military base in Bar-ubah Junction of Hawl-wadaag district in Mogadishu. The injured people were admitted to local hospitals for treatment.
HIRAAN: Civilian Executed in Central Somalia
May 12, Maxaas – A civilian man who killed another civilian on Saturday was publicly executed by locals in Maxaas District of Hiiraan region. Mohamed Ali Shidde was executed in Goobo village, according to local resident who spoke to Somalia Report.
MIDDLE SHABELLE: Al-Shabaab Fired on Civilians
May 13, War-Shiikh - At least two people were killed and three others were critically wounded in Filla-Dheer near War-Shiikh District of Middle-Shabelle region. This incident comes after al-Shabaab fighters opened fire on innocent people who were traveling between Hiraan and Middle Shabelle regions, according to locals who spoke to Somalia Report. The perpetrators escaped after al-Shabaab leaders from the district of War-Shiikh arrive at the scene.
BANAADIR: Grenade Killed Three, Injured Two
May 13, Mogadishu – Three civilians were dead and two others were slightly wounded after unknown perpetrators hurled grenades on a TFG base in Bar-ubah Junction of Hawl-wadaa District in Mogadishu. Witnesses said the casualties were taken to clinics. Although the security forces arrived at the scene, the assailants managed to escape.
BAY: Young Man Executed in Qansax-Dheere
May 13, Qansax-Dheere – Unknown gunmen executed a young boy in Qansax-Dheere district of Bay region and put his body on the outskirts of Qansax-dheere, according to residents and government officials in Bay Region. The locals believed this was a scare tactics of al-Shabaab, although Qansax-Dheere was one of the strongholds of al-Shabaab in Bay.
BANAADIR: Al-Shabaab Killed Burundian Soldier
May 13, Mogadishu – The militant group of al-Shabaab claimed to have killed a Burundian soldier in Mogadishu. Amiir Nuur and Andalus, the pro-al-Shabaab broadcasts, said that the Burundian soldier was killed in an offensive against the TFG and AMISOM forces in Mogadishu, but the Burundian spokesman of the denied the killing. Also @HSM Press, a self-proclaimed al-Shabaab twitter account, posted the identification card of the Burundian soldier.
AWDAL: Medical Doctor Killed in Car Accident
May 14, Dila – A medical doctor, Abdirashid Sheikh Ali, was killed and two of his family members were wounded when the vehicle they were travelling in was involved a fatal road accident in Dilla District of Awdal region in northern Somalia. The psychiatrist was headed to Borame town on voluntary health mission.
MUDUG: Lightning in Mudug Region Killed Three and Injured Six
May 14, Galkacyo – At least three people have been killed and six others of a same family injured when lightning struck local herders in parts of Mudug region amid heavy rains in central Somalia. Locals told Somalia Report that the victims were killed rural areas of eastern parts of Mudug region.
GALGADUUD: Heavy Rains Injured 15 People
May 14, Mareer-Guur – Heavy downpours in central Somalia injured more than 15 locals in Mareer-guur village some 30kms north of Dhusamareeb, the provincial headquarter of Galgaduud region. Most of the victims were Children, Women and Elders according to the residents, some of the injured people were taken to clinics in Dhusamareeb town.
LOWER-JUBBA: Battle in Badhaadhe Killed Seven and Injured Six
May 14, Badhaadhe – Seven people were killed and six others wounded when a fierce-battle erupted near Badhaadhe District of Lower-Jubba region in Somalia. The battle between al-Shabaab militants and Somali national forces backed by the Kenyan Defense Forces according to witnesses and government officials who spoke to Somalia report. The motive of the fighting came when militants launched an offensive against the allied forces.
BANAADIR: Government Soldiers Killed in Mogadishu
May 14, Mogadishu – At least two government forces were killed and three others wounded after gun-battle between the TFG forces erupted in Mogadishu according to witnesses. The gun-battle after the forces looted Khat from locals around the Towfiiq junction in Mogadishu.
HIRAAN: Explosion in Beletweyne Targeted ENDF
May 14, Beletweyne – At least three civilians were killed and many others wounded after a remote controlled explosive device exploded in Beletweyne to target Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) in the strategic town of Beletweyne. In return, the forces opened fire and killed three civilians. A pro-al-Shabaab website reported that more than 10 Ethiopian soldiers were killed in the attack.
LOWER-JUBBA: Joint Forces Battled Against Al-Shabaab
May 15, Afmadow – Four people were killed and eight others were injured when a fierce gun-battle erupted between al-Shabaab militants and government soldiers backed by Kenyan forces at Hayo village of Afmadow district, Lower Juba region. The fighting occurred after the allied forces launched attacks at rebel base located on the outskirts of Hayo village in order to dislodge them from the area.
WAQOOYI-GALBEED: Battle in Hargeisa Left Seven Dead
May 15, Hargeisa – At least seven people were killed and six others were injured after a land dispute turned violent between civilians and Somaliland’s military forces in the northern breakaway region’s capital, Hargeisa, according to Government officials and Residents in the city. The motive was over land dispute that belonged to the former government of President Siad Barre Local sources in Hargeisa said.
LOWER-JUBBA: Al-Shabaab Attacked KDF and TFG Forces
May 15, Qoqani – Three people were killed and three others wounded after heavy fighting erupted near Qoqani village of Lower-Jubba region. The battle between allied forces and also the al-Shabaab militants. Sources in Qoqani told to Somalia Qoqani that the militants attacked allied forces military bases in the outskirts of Qoqani.
BANAADIR: Gunmen Killed One Civilian in Mogadishu
May 15, Mogadishu – Unknown gunmen with pistols killed one civilian and wounded one another in Hodan Distinct of Mogadishu on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred near former coca-cola building in Hodan District according to locals and government officials in the restive city of Mogadishu. No group has claimed the motive although government blames al-Shabaab on such incidents.
BAY: Government Official Murdered in Baidao
May 16, Baidao – Armed men shot and killed a government official in Baidao on Wednesday night according to witnesses. Four armed men with Pistols murdered the deputy chairman of Berdaalle District in Baidao Aden Hayle was shot dead near his home in Baidoa according to government officials in the south-western city of Baidoa.

May 16, El-Bur – More than four people of rival groups were killed and three others were injured after heavy fighting between al-Shabaab and ASWJ backed by EDNF erupted in central Somalia witnesses say. The fighting comes after when al-Shabaab launched an offensive against the allied forces.
GEDO: Al-Shabaab Conducted Hit and Run Attacks in Garbahaarey
May 16, Garbahaarey – At least three people died and two others were slightly wounded a hit and run attack in Garbahaarey district of Gedo region according to ASWJ officials. al-Shabaab fighters attacked Garbahaarey and destroyed the largest water distribution system of the district according to Sheikh Mohamed Hussein Ishak (Al-Qaddi) the spokesman of ASWJ in southern Somalia.
GALGADUUD: Four Al-Shabaab Fighters Died in a Landmine Explosion
May 16, El-Garas – At least four al-Shabaab fighters were dead from a landmine explosion in central Somalia, according to residents and al-Shabaab officials. The blast went off while the fighters were travelling in a Toyota Surf near El-Garas village of Galgaduud region.
LOWER JUBBA: KDF Killed Businessman in Tabta
May 16, Tabta – KDF shot and killed a local businessman in Tabta village of Lower-Jubba region. The incident comes after the KDF soldiers opened fire on a vehicle transporting Khat or Miraa during night time. Ahmed Abdullahi said this incident caused that the allied forces of KDF and TFG meet with the victim's family.
BANAADIR: Gunmen Killed Three Soldiers and Injured Two
May 16, Mogadishu – Three government soldiers were killed and two others wounded after unknown gunmen launched an offensive against them in Hawl-wadaag Junction of Mogadishu, according to witnesses and government soldiers. Ahmed Abdulakdir, a university student who witnessed the incident, told Somalia Report that the perpetrators have escaped before the security arrival at the scene.
BANAADIR: TFG Soldiers Clashed in Mogadishu
May 16, Mogadishu – Two government soldiers and one civilian were injured after clashes between the soldiers erupted near the central police station of Warta-Nabadda district of Mogadishu. The clash created fear among residents and business activities stopped as a result, according to Mustafa Yassin, a local businessman.
MUDUG: 10 People Injured in Galkacyo Clash
May 17, Galkacyo – At least 10 people, mostly produce sellers of the northern market of Galkacyo, were injured after a clash erupted among the vendors in the market. More than seven of the casualties were women who used to work in the market and were admitted in to the local clinics for treatment.
MUDUG: Man Executed in Central Somalia
May 17, Ceel-Guula – Unknown gunmen executed a civilian on the outskirts of Ceel-guula village of Mudug region. The body was delivered inside the village to intimdate the locals, according to Farah Awad who spoke to Somalia Report. Ceel-guul is 110kms from Galkacyo, the regional headquarters of Mudug.
GALGADUUD: Three Injured Explosion in Central Somalia
May 17, Wabxo –Three militiamen of a moderate Islamist Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa (ASWJ) were injured in Galgaduud region of central Somalia, according to ASWJ officials in Dhusamareeb. The incident comes after a landmine blasts hit the ASWJ soldiers who were patrolling between Wabxo and Warxoole villages of Galgaduud region. The injured were treating to Dhusamareeb clinics.
LOWER-JUBBA: KDF and Al-Shabaab Blasted Each Other with Mortars
May 18, Qoqani – One civilian died and two others were injured in Qoqani of Lower-Jubba region after the KDF and al-Shabaab exchanged mortar attacks alternatively this morning. Yahye Abulwahid, a resident in Qoqani, confirmed this incident to Somalia Report.
HIRAAN: Ethiopian Soldiers Shot and Killed Civilian in Beletweyne
May 18, Beletweyne – ENDF shot and killed a civilian in Beletweyne on Friday afternoon, according to locals in Hawo-Taako village in Beletweyne. The forces were conducting security operations in the village arrested the victim, Mohamed Hussein Qoor-gaab, and later killed him.
