According to TFG security officials who requested anonymity, due to government restrictions, the first explosion which was a grenade attack occurred in Sariindo camp, while the other took place near Mogadishu port.
“About 7:00pm (1600 GMT) suspected al-Shabaab fighters threw grenades at security forces based in Hamar Jajab, injuring three soldiers,” the source stated. The attackers escaped from the scene.
An eyewitness informed Somalia Report that a roadside bomb which targeted TFG military vehicles near Mogadishu port killed two TFG soldiers.
“It was a huge explosion which could be heard all over Hamar Jajab neighborhood. TFG forces fired in all directions before evacuating their injured from the area,” Shafi’I Gurey told Somalia Report.
TFG security forces scattered all over Hamar Jajab streets and began massive security operations, arresting several people accused of having relations with the attackers.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, but al-Shabaab fighters have recently increasingly targeted TFG and African Union Peacekeepers (AMISOM) in Mogadishu. Yesterday's grenade attacks targeted the UN offices in Mogadishu, injuring two civilians.
The militants have vowed that they will never allow TFG, AMISOM or “foreign security companies” to operate peacefully in Somalia.
