Three Women Seized Over Links with Al-Shabaab
The Suspects Are Helping Puntland Authorities with Investigations
By LEILA ADEN 12/18/2011
At least three women were arrested by the Puntland police late on Saturday after they were suspected of having links with the militant group al-Shabaab, locals said on Sunday.

“It is true that three women were arrested and taken to an unknown location," said a resident of Bosaso, who did not want to be named due to security reasons.

“The three women were suspected and detained but we don’t know who they are and where they came from," said Awale Ahmed, a Bosaso elder who spoke to Somalia Report.

The police seized the trio for interrogation and they are expected to help the authorities with further investigations, the local residents said.

“We welcome the police operation to deal with those causing insecurity in Puntland," said Ahmed.

A senior police official in Bosaso said he would not divulge further details about the arrests until investigations were complete.

Increased cases of insecurity have become a common phenomenon in the semi-autonomous state of Puntland in recent months.
