According to the witnesses, the armed attacked shot and killed Hersi Jama Dhangad, the Deputy Chief Commander of Garowe Security Forces in the commercial capital.
Local residents told Somalia Report that four armed men attacked Dhangad with a pistol, while he was leaving a mosque shortly after the evening prayer.
“They were four. One of them shot at Dhangad’s head with four bullets, and he died instantly,” said Abshir Fowsi, a resident in Garowe.
Garowe security forces immediately launched a manhunt for the killers. However no arrests have been made.
Police officials told the local media that they were conducting investigations into the killing and vowed to capture the culprits.
The assassination comes in the wake of high-profile visits to the region by Somalia’s President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed and Prime Minister Abdiwali Mohamed Ali.
