Somali MP Abdulkadir Sheikh Ismail said his colleague was killed at 6:30pm (1530 GMT) local time by three masked men who shot him at the head as he was leaving the Marwaaz mosque after saying his evening prayers.
Local witnesses also confirmed the killing.
“I saw three men armed with pistols shooting the MP at close range,” Mohamed Hassan, an eyewitness told Somalia Report.
All three gunmen escaped the scene before government soldiers reached the site.
