At a session that saw some 397 members of parliament vote in favor of the new administration, the speaker Sharif Hassan praised the move. Some 21 MPs voted against the new cabinet.
‘‘Thank you, honorable members, for endorsing the new cabinet and we hope they deliver as per the expectations,’’ the speaker said.
The session, which was heavily guarded by both the African Union Mission of Somalia (AMISOM) and the TFG forces, was graced by the Somalia Prime Minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, who thanked the House for supporting his new cabinet.
‘‘Top on my agenda is improving the country’s security, constitution-making and delivering the basic services needed by the Somali people,’’ Abdiweli told parliament. '' We will improve the country's image as well as place more emphasis on the issues of national concern,'' he said.
The naming of the cabinet is part of the initial Kampala Accord that requires a new prime minister and his team to be endorsed within a month.
